Be Thankful For Powerful, Professional Teeth Whitening

stephenlega • Nov 09, 2016

Thanksgiving is the start of one of the best times of the year. For the next month or so, we’ll be gathering with families to share what we are thankful for and to share gifts with one another. We want to look our best for photos, which is why we are glad to have professional teeth whitening .

We offer Zoom! and Opalescence teeth whitening for patients who visit our dentist office in Columbia, SC. Both are great ways to make stained teeth look more like pearly whites once again.

Make an appointment soon if you would like to find out more about teeth whitening or about cosmetic dentistry at Total Dental Care of South Carolina.

You can request an appointment online or by calling 803-272-4162.

Teeth Whitening In Our Office

The absolute fastest way to clean up stained teeth is with an in-office whitening treatment.

A great time for this treatment is after you have completed a professional dental cleaning. That will remove plaque and tartar from your teeth as well as surface stains. That will allow the profession whitening treatment to go even deeper to remove stains that may have taken decades to develop.

We use the Zoom! whitening system for our in-office treatments. We have found that this is a good way to remove stains that have formed as a result of tobacco use, coffee, tea, and other stain-causing foods and drinks.

Zoom! can make your teeth several shades whiter in a single visit to our dentist in Columbia, SC.

Before we begin, however, Dr. Forbes will examine your mouth. Unfortunately, teeth whitening can have adverse side effects if your mouth is not healthy enough for the procedure.

Once you are cleared for treatment, a member of our team will apply a protective gel to your gums. A peroxide-based whitening agent will be applied directly to your teeth. Then we will expose your teeth to a special lamp for three 15-minute intervals.

You will receive a fluoride treatment at the end of your whitening procedure. This can minimize the tooth sensitivity that can be a temporary side effect of teeth whitening.

If you are getting ready for an event in the near future — like a Thanksgiving meal or a Christmas party — then in-office teeth whitening will give you visibly noticeable results in the shortest time.

Teeth Whitening At Home

Speedy results can be nice, but some people prefer to do their teeth whitening on their own schedule. Other people prefer to take the do-it-yourself approach to their whitening.

For both groups, we offer Opalescence take-home teeth whitening products. In a few weeks, you could have a dramatically whiter smile in as little as 30 minutes a day.

You might even prefer to do your teeth whitening while you sleep.

Opalescence makes different products in various flavors and with different concentrations of the whitening agents. The stronger products are meant to be used for shorter periods of time. The weaker products are the ones that can be worn overnight.

Start by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Forbes. He can help you figure out which Opalescence option is right for you.

We’ll give you instructions on how to use it. Then, all you have to do is follow the directions and watch your smile improve.

Why You Should Do Your Teeth Whitening With Us

We understand that it can be tempting to use the over-the-counter whitening products that you will find in the toothpaste aisle.

In spite of their claims, whitening toothpaste doesn’t do much more than remove surface stains from your teeth, according to the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs. You can use them, but don’t put too much hope in them making a big change to the whiteness of your smile.

Whitening strips and gels can remove some of the deep stains, but they have significantly lower concentrations of the bleaching agents. These can work, but they take much longer to produce the results you want to see. (This can also create a risk of overuse, which can lead to oral health issues.)
