Know What to Do In An Emergency

October 24, 2014

Emergencies happen every single day. Patients often come to us after an emergency and tell us how helpless they felt during the emergency because they didn’t know what to do! Let’s end that right now with a few common emergency situations and what you can do about it! Be prepared the next time something happens, and be the one who saves the day!

Painful Tooth – Often a toothache is a sign of an infected tooth or a cavity. It’s important that we see that tooth as soon as possible. In the meantime, take over the counter painkillers, use warm compresses, and avoid chewing on that side of your mouth.

Broken Appliance – Broken crowns and bridges happen more often than you might think. If you experience a broken appliance, or your crown comes off completely, go to the drugstore for temporary adhesive. You can use denture adhesive, or but special crown repair adhesive to hold your appliance in place until you can get to the office.

Broken or Knocked Out Tooth – The most frightening emergency is a broken or knocked out tooth. Recover the pieces of the tooth and immediately rinse them off (avoid touching the root). Once clean, place the pieces in a cup of milk or as the injured person to hold the pieces in his cheek to keep them moist.

In the event of an emergency, give us a call immediately (as long as 911 doesn’t need to be called first). We guarantee to get you in on the same day! Contact us if you have any questions about emergency procedures. We’d be happy to share more ideas about how to keep your house prepared for a dental emergency.
