Two Simple Ways To Straighten Your Teeth

stephenlega • Jul 22, 2016

You see them every time you go to the grocery store. Celebrity magazines get your attention with outrageous headlines … and portraits that feature those celebrities’ perfect smiles.

As interested as you may or may not be in the latest gossip about your favorite actor or musician, you can’t help noticing those teeth.

How are they so straight, so perfectly in line?

We can’t say how any particular celebrity may or may not have gotten his or her smile, but we do know what we can do to help patients at our dentist office in Columbia, SC.

At Total Dental Care of South Carolina, we offer two orthodontic treatments that could give you the smile you want.

Who knows, maybe you’ll end up on a magazine cover some day, too?

Need For Speed

The right orthodontic treatment for your may depend on what is more important to you. If you prefer to see results as quickly as possible, then you may be interested in Six Month Smiles.

This is an example of cosmetic orthodontics. There are multiple reasons to straighten your teeth, but for many people, the primary reason is to have a better-looking smile.

Six Month Smiles is designed to give you a smile with straight teeth is a fraction of the time as traditional braces.

On average, a person will wear braces for about two years before his or her treatment is complete. As the name suggests, Six Month Smiles can work in around half a year.

Do Six Month Smiles use some kind of special brackets or wires? No. Instead, this treatment is completely focused on moving the teeth in the front of your mouth.

These are the teeth that people see when you smile. It’s helpful that they also are the lightest and smallest teeth in your mouth.

By using the same tools as traditional braces — brackets and wires — in a more focused way, you can have the smile of your dreams in a fraction of the time.

Discretion Preferred

For some patients, the major drawback of traditional braces isn’t the time it takes to complete the treatment. For many, it’s the fact that they have to wear brackets and wires on their teeth.

Some patients don’t want to call attention to their orthodontic care, and brackets and wires aren’t easy to hide when they are bonded to the front of your teeth.

There is a way around this issue with a treatment some people have described as “clear braces.” It’s called ClearCorrect. It’s a great option for working adults or teens who may not feel comfortable wearing braces for months or years at a time.

As an alternative to brackets and wires, ClearCorrect uses computer-designed plastic aligners to push your teeth in stages.

Each aligner is worn for a few weeks at a time. As long as you wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day, your teeth should keep moving in the right direction.

Every time you replace your old aligner with a new one, you will know that you are a little close to the straight teeth that you have been dreaming about.

Just like the name suggests, the aligners are clear. Most people will not realize that you are wearing them unless you take them out when you are in front of them.

The aligners also make orthodontic treatment more convenient. With braces, you will have to avoid certain foods, and you may need to use special tools to keep food from getting stuck between the wires and your teeth.

Since you can remove the aligners, you can eat whatever you want, and you can continue brushing and flossing your teeth like you do now.

A Third Option

There is another way to change the appearance of your smile in less time and without switching aligners every few weeks.

Instead of moving your teeth into new positions, you can get veneers to hide them instead. Veneers are a cover that is bonded to the front of your teeth.

Your veneers can be custom-made to look as straight and as white as you would like them to be. It’s not the same as physically moving your teeth, but it can give you the appearance of a straight smile.
