Would You Like A New Smile In Six Months?

stephenlega • May 24, 2016

Choose one of each of the following:

You can have your home’s foundation fixed in a month or early next year.

You can have your car alignment fixed this week or a month from now.

You can have a smile with straight teeth in six months or in two years.

What did you pick? We are guessing, but we suspect that most of you went with the shorter timeframe for each of those projects.

If you want to fix your smile, then Total Dental Care of South Carolina is the place to go. (If you need home or auto repairs, then you will probably need to visit someplace other than our dentist office in Columbia, SC.)

Six Month Smiles is a great way to improve the appearance of your smile in less time than more traditional braces.

How Do Six Month Smiles Work?

Six Month Smile work pretty much like other kinds of braces.

You will have brackets attached to your teeth with a wire between them. Our brackets are clear, so this does make them a more discreet than traditional metal braces, however.

The difference between Six Month Smiles and other braces is focus.

If you get traditional braces, the intent to move every tooth into perfectly straight alignment. This includes the molars — the larger and heavier teeth in the back of your mouth.

Because of this, treatments with traditional braces can take about two years. During the first year or so, braces move the crowns of your teeth, and in the second year, they adjust the position of your roots.

Now find a mirror or use your camera phone to take a picture. Make sure you that you are smiling.

When you look at your smile, can you see your molars (again, those are the teeth in the back)? In a vast majority of cases, you won’t.

Knowing this, you can emphasize the teeth that you can see with Six Month Smiles. Because the focus is on moving the most visible teeth, the process can move more quickly.

As a result, you are moving fewer teeth, and the teeth you are moving are the smallest and lightest ones in your mouth.  This is why you really can get a new smile in just six months.

Why You May Want A Straighter Smile

The benefits of a great smile are hard to overstate. We are willing to bet that you know someone with a smile that can light up a room.

Just seeing this person smile seems to make other people feel better. You can be that person for someone else if you have a smile that you feel comfortable sharing.

◼︎ Build Trust

Studies have shown that people with great smiles are considered more trustworthy by others. This could be invaluable in any number of situations.

Smiling helps establish rapport with coworkers and potential clients or customers. Whether you are trying to sell someone on an idea or a service, smiling will help your case.

◼︎ Cope With Your Mistakes

Hey, it’s okay to admit when you’ve made a mistake. We’ve all done or said something that we realized was right afterwards.

If you can acknowledge your error with a smile, it will make it easier for you to accept and help other people accept it as well.

◼︎ Improve Your Mood

Smiling isn’t just for other people. When you can find a reason to smile, it can lift your spirits, too. The more comfortable you are with your smile, the more likely you are to do it. Smiling can help reduce your stress and anxiety, too.

◼︎ Be More Approachable

When you see someone smiling at you, that makes the other person appear friendlier and more approachable. This goes both ways. When you smile, other people perceive you to be a friendlier person.

This can help in professional situations, in social situations, and, possible, in romantic situations, too.
